Graduation Requirements

Canajoharie High School currently offers three types of diplomas:

  • Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation

  • Regents Diploma

  • Local Diploma – Students under the jurisdiction of the Committee on Special Education may be eligible for a local diploma, and granted access to the “Safety Net,” allowing them to score 55 or higher on the required exams to meet the requirements for a Local Diploma. Such students must attempt all five Regents exams on at least one occasion.

Requirements for each diploma type are issued by the New York State Education Department. Requirements include specific course and exam requirements, as outlined below:

Courses Requirements

Physical Education must be taken every year a student is enrolled in high school. Students receive .5 credits each year they pass Physical Education.

Local/Regents

  • English – 4

  • Social Studies – 4

  • Math – 3

  • Science – 3

  • Art or Music – 1

  • Physical Education – 2 (4 years)

  • Foreign Language – 1 (Students can only be exempt from foreign language if deemed eligible by the committee on special education)

  • Health – .5

  • Electives – 4

  • Total – 22.5

Advanced Regents

  • English – 4

  • Social Studies – 4

  • Math – 3

  • Science – 3

  • Art or Music – 1

  • Physical Education – 2 (4 years)

  • Foreign Language – 3 (Students can only be exempt from foreign language if deemed eligible by the committee on special education; Students acquiring a 5-unit sequence in Art, Business, Family and Consumer Sciences, Technology, or Occupational Education may be exempt.)
    Health – .5

  • Electives – 2

  • Total – 22.5

  • U.S. History

  • Integrated Algebra

  • 1 Science Exam

Advanced Regents

65 or higher on each

  • English Language Arts

  • Global History and Geography

  • Integrated Algebra

  • Geometry

  • Algebra 2/Trigonometry

  • 2 Science Exams

  • Foreign Language (Students can only be exempt from foreign language if deemed eligible by the committee on special education; Students acquiring a 5-unit sequence in Art, Business, Family and Consumer Sciences, Technology, or Occupational Education may be exempt.)

Honors designation is awarded to students averaging 90 or higher on the exams required for each diploma.
