The Canajoharie High School School Counseling Office is dedicated to improving student success by delivering programs that address students’ academic, career, and personal/social needs. The School Counseling Program is an integral part of Canajoharie High School’s academic program.

Planning and Preparation
Naviance Family Connection is the secure, web-based college planning tool used by Shenendehowa. It provides a comprehensive college search engine, it allows students to access scholarship applications, construct a resume, and explore careers.
College Board – The College Board administers SAT and Advanced Placement exams. It is a site where you can get information on our tests, find colleges, learn about financial aid and get application help.
SUNY Homepage – This site provides information about all of the State University of New York colleges.
Common Application – More than 600 colleges, one application.
Financial Aid
FAFSA – The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as the FAFSA) is a form that is prepared annually to determine eligibility for federal student financial aid (including the Pell Grant, Federal student loans and Federal Work-Study).
HESC – Every year, hundreds of thousands of students benefit from the financial programs administered by HESC – NYS Higher Education Services Corporation. HESC manages more than 18 grant and scholarship programs, including the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), the nation’s largest state grant.
FinAid (Financial Aid Resources) – FinAid is a comprehensive source of student financial aid information, advice and tools — on or off the web. Access to FinAid is free for all users.
Federal Student Aid – This site is intended to be the go-to source for information and resources about planning, preparing and paying for postsecondary education (such as 2- or 4-year colleges and universities, and vocational or career schools)
www.scholarships.com – This site matches the information in your completed profile to scholarships from their database and helps colleges recruit students based on their profile.
www.fastweb.com – This site matches the information in your completed profile to scholarships from their database of over 1.5 million scholarships worth over $3.4 billion.

Going to College (Students with Disabilities) – This is a resource to help students with disabilities plan for college.
Student Athletes
NCAA Clearinghouse – This site provides information for student-athletes. The NCAA is made up of three membership classifications that are known as Divisions I, II, and III. Each division creates its own rules governing personnel, amateurism, recruiting, eligibility, benefits, financial aid, and playing and practice seasons.

Program planning for the school year
Freshmen through juniors attended the presentation titled, Program, Career & College Planning in mid-December. Students reviewed and selected courses for next year..
Students and parents/guardians are invited to meet with Guidance for individual annual review meetings to review academic progress, graduation requirements, future plans and finalize course selections.
Students should make appointments in the counseling center beginning January 2.

Naviance keeps track of recent CHS college applications, student statistics, and admissions decisions. Students and parents now have access to a wide range of college admissions and career search information.
College Visits
Throughout the year, representatives from colleges and universities around the country visit our school to meet with interested students. If you want to meet with a college representative, get a pass from the School Counseling Office that morning.

Available every Wednesday. Sign-up in the Main Office for the bus.
