The Canajoharie Central School District (CSD) has been awarded a $163,602 Mental Health Recover from COVID School Program (RECOVS) Grant from the New York State Department of Education.

State officials announced on Wednesday that Canajoharie CSD was one of the 40 school districts and BOCES statewide that obtained these grant funds. The funds are designated to strengthen and promote practices supporting mental health and wellness for our student body.

“Investing in the well-being of our students is an investment in their future. Canajoharie CSD is proud to have received the RECOVS Grant, a testament to our commitment to mental health,” said Special Education Director Jennifer Schwabrow, who wrote the application that helped secure the grant. “With these funds, we're not just securing counselors; we're shaping a brighter tomorrow through the development of a comprehensive Pre K-12 Social Emotional curriculum. Together, we build a foundation of resilience, compassion, and success for every student in our community.”

Funds will allow the  Canajoharie CSD to secure a second high school counselor for two more years. The grant will also provide stipends for members of the SEL Taskforce for curriculum development for the Pre K-12 Social Emotional curriculum.

State Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa said, “The RECOVS grant funding underscores our commitment to fostering equitable access to education opportunities and mental health services for all students. By addressing lost instructional time and prioritizing student well-being, we aim to create an inclusive educational environment that empowers every learner to thrive in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
